DID YOU KNOW?: The French was Safin’s breakout tournament in 1998. He took out defending champion Guga Kuerten in the third round, and made Agassi work for his 5-set win over the Russian in the fourth.

Actually, your info on Safin’s 1998 French Open is incorrect. He defeated Agassi in the first round and defending champion Kuerten in the second round, each in five sets, before beating Daniel Vacek in the third. Safin lost to Frenchman Cedric Pioline in a tough five setter in the fourth round. As you said, it was his breakout tournament.
I love the trivia! didn’t know that, by the way, what was that match when Safin pulled down his shorts after winning a point? Wasn’t it at the French also?
p.s. the photo is familiar! ahahaha….. 🙂
